Majuba Rail Project

The construction of this dedicated railway comes as result of Eskom’s initiative to change transportation of coal to a number of power stations, especially Majuba Power Station, from road trucks to rail transportation which resultant positive economic, environmental and social benefits.
Aveng Grinaker-LTA,the civil contractor for Eskom’s Majuba Rail Project, is proceeding with the construction activities on the Majuba Rail servitude. Site establishment on the northern side has been completed while on the southern side it has commenced and is nearing completion. Stallion Readymix was awarded with the supply of 40 000m3 for the main structures.
Reinforcements to piers at Vaal River Bridge (35km)
The construction of structures such as cattle creeps, culverts, agricultural underpass and bridges has started. Initial activities include excavations for bases for the Vaal River Bridge. The Vaal River has also successfully been diverted as per the Water Use License to allow for the establishment of the bridge launching pad.
Major activities for the next quarter include starting with the formation layer works on the whole servitude, and construction of the piers on the bridges.

MAJUBA PROJECT 2014

The Majuba project is progressing well Stallion has supplied approx 28 000 m3 pored to date. The contract is progressing well notwithstanding several strikes and Rainfall delays
Stallion supply capacity has also been increased by the installation of a second Back to Back batching plant at Rietspruit which can produce up to 66m3 per hour.
Stallion has 3 fully automated Karoo batch plants supplying this project .
